The Graffiti Habitual Offender Suppression Team, also known as G.H.O.S.T., is the Bakersfield Police Department’s Unit which specializes primarily in investigating graffiti related offenses. The goal of G.H.O.S.T. is to prevent and suppress graffiti, prosecute offenders, and graffiti removal.

The City of Bakersfield provides free graffiti removal within the city limits by contacting 326-ERASE, or by downloading the “Bakersfield Mobile” app, which is available for mobile devices. Users are easily able to report graffiti to be both investigated and removed.

  • Costs the City of Bakersfield hundreds of thousands of dollars in city damages.
  • 4 different types of graffiti; tagging, hate, gang, and random (messages/images or symbols).
  • Offenders arrested have been between the ages of 12-70.
  • Graffiti vandals start doing graffiti at a young age, usually between 8-12.
  • Age, gender, ethnicity, background, and careers do not play a role in who commits graffiti offenses.
  • Most graffiti is driven by rebellion in our youth, fame notoriety, and power.


No suspect Information - Refer to the “Bakersfield Mobile” phone app or the 32-Erase Hotline for free Graffiti removal. These referrals are later forwarded to the Graffiti Officer’s for further investigation, tracking, and used if the suspect is ever apprehended.
