The Centennial Corridor Project will construct a new alignment and provide route continuity and traffic congestion relief for State Route 58 from Cottonwood Road on existing State Route 58 (East) to Interstate 5.
Phases 1, 2 and 3 are under construction. The construction contract for Phase 4 was awarded in April 2019; construction is expected to begin in July 2019. The project will also construct a roundabout at State Route 43 (Enos Lane) and Stockdale Highway. The roundabout begins construction in June 2019.
Centennial Corridor Phase 1 - Kern River Bridge Improvements Project is under construction.
Centennial Corridor Phase 2 - Belle Terrace Operational Improvements demolishes the existing Belle Terrace Overcrossing and replaces it with a structure that meets current vertical clearance requirements. This phase also improves northbound State Route 99 to eastbound State Route 58 traffic flow by reconstructing the connector structure over Wible Road and widening it to two lanes. Wible Road and Alamo Court will be realigned with the project. This phase is under construction.
Centennial Corridor Phase 3 - Bakersfield Freeway Connector reconstructs the westbound-to-southbound loop ramp at the State Route 58/State Route 99 interchange. The project constructs an auxiliary lane on westbound State Route 58 and widens the westbound bridge crossing State Route 99. This phase addresses bottleneck congestion on southbound State Route 99 by separating freeway on- and off-ramps between State Route 58 and Ming Avenue. The eastbound and westbound State Route 58 connectors will be combined into one branch connecting to southbound State Route 99. The entrance to the Ming Avenue off-ramp will be moved north and motorists will travel on a barrier-separated connector to Ming Avenue. This phase is under construction.
Centennial Corridor Phase 4 - Mainline - will construct the freeway and structures between State Route 99 and the Westside Parkway. Phase 4 will also construct the northbound-to-westbound connector ramp at the State Route 58/State Route 99 interchange. In June 2018, Congressman Kevin McCarthy notified the City that the US Department of Transportation intends to award $50 million through the Infrastructure for Rebuilding American (INFRA) program for the completion of Centennial Corridor. Project has been advertised for construction bids. Construction is expected to begin in July 2019.

Caltrans and the City of Bakersfield have implemented a Voluntary Emission Reduction Agreement with the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District to provide mitigation measures that benefit residents living adjacent to the future Centennial Corridor Project. Residents and property owners may qualify for rebates to replace wood burning stoves and open-hearth fireplaces with cleaner alternatives. Visit the Valley Air website for information and guidelines on how to participate in the Burn Cleaner program.
