Kids at Swim Lessons

The City of Bakersfield offers American Red Cross Learn to Swim lessons. These swim lessons feature many levels of instruction to help swimmers of all ages and abilities develop their skills. Lessons are offered in the summer months of June, July, and August to participants six months through adults. For additional swim lesson information check back for the summer brochure.

Registration Dates

Summer Session: CLOSED

$54 for residents; $64 for non-residents

$5 grant discounted fee (6 months-adult

Ages: 6 months to adult 

2019 Summer Aquatic Grants- CLOSED 

The City of Bakersfield is pleased to offer $5 discounted swim lessons for children in our community. These lessons would not be possible without the generous support of Kaiser Permanente, American Red Cross, First 5 Kern and USA Swimming. The department believes all children should have the opportunity to learn the important life skill of swimming, no matter their financial situation. All grant registrations must be done in person. Activity brochure will provide additional registration information.

Swim Team Programs- CLOSED

Swim Race Beginning

Co-ed recreational swim team is offered in the summer and fall seasons each year. These swim teams are a great way for youth to improve swim techniques, endurance, and speed in a fun and supportive environment.

Other Aquatic Programs

In addition to the programs listed above, the City of Bakersfield provides a variety of aquatic programs for all ages. Some of these programs include: kayaking, aqua aerobics, lap swimming, diving, Junior Lifeguarding, and much more. For additional information, visit the current Activities Brochure.
