What’s New in Old Town Kern?

Keep Bakersfield Beautiful (KBB) has a beautification project underway to improve Old Town Kern.  It will cover approximately 2 square miles of this historic neighborhood that is the local hub of the globally unique Basque community.

The project starts with a mural by Zax Art Studio that depicts the French Basque culture.  More murals will be added to recognize the Spanish Basque community too.  KBB’s ultimate vision is a more inviting and walkable Old Town Kern that artistically expresses the rich Basque culture that came from Europe to Bakersfield.  As the project progresses, visitors to the area will have additional lighting for safety and ambiance and lovely low maintenance trees and other vegetation to spruce up the streetscapes.

Please call KBB at (661) 326-3539 if you would like to make a tax deductible contribution of funds, materials, or space for KBB to enhance Old Town Kern. You may also make donations to the Bakersfield Foundation PayPal
