On November 6, 2018, voters within the City of Bakersfield approved Measure N, known as Bakersfield Public Safety & Vital City Services Measure. The Measure is a locally controlled one-cent sales tax measure that will provide approximately $58 million annually to the City of Bakersfield to address top community priorities including enhancing public safety, reducing homelessness and bolstering economic development activities. The Measure is effective April 1, 2019, within the City of Bakersfield.

The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) administers, collects and distributes transaction use taxes for all applicable jurisdictions within the state. The CDTFA is currently working to implement the Measure, which will become effective April 1, 2019. On and after April 1, 2019, the sales and use tax rates charged for applicable transactions will likely change if you conduct business within the incorporated city limits of Bakersfield. The sales and use tax rate of 8.25 percent will become the new sales and use tax rate.
