The City of Bakersfield’s new Code Enforcement Rapid Response Team – created thanks to the Public Safety and Vital Services Measure – is already showing strong results.
The seven-day a week team has already responded to more than 100 complaints -- including 88 encampments -- made by the residents of Bakersfield since the team was launched in August.
The public can now quickly report encampments, shopping carts, and illegal camping from their mobile devices using the City’s “Bakersfield Mobile App.”
The RRT also contacts individuals found at encampment locations and offers to connect them with services and resources with the goal of eventually transitioning them to permanent housing options.
The RRT was created through the PSVS one-cent sales tax passed by voters in November 2018 to address 13 specific priorities identified by the community, including homelessness.
The Bakersfield Mobile App is available to download free on both Android and IOS devices.
