City crews say the sinkhole is not on 24th Street, but just north of a k-rail along the road near Cedar Street. The hole was spotted by observant residents in the area who called the City Public Works Department.
The lane closure is not expected to last beyond Thursday night.

The City of Bakersfield’s Public Works Department is working to repair damage caused by a sinkhole on the westbound side of 24th Street.
The repair work will require crews to close the outside westbound lane of 24th Street west of F Street. It is not clear at this time how long the lane will be closed or what caused the sinkhole.
