The intersection of Olive Drive and Jewetta Avenue is closed until further notice as crews work to repair a damaged six-inch gas line.
A contractor hit the gas main while boring conduits in the area around 11:30 a.m.
The line is operated by Southern California Gas Company and the utility is on scene with Kern County Fire Department* personnel.
SoCal Gas expects the intersection to be closed for several hours while repairs are made to the gas line.
Traffic in the area may be affected by this closure. Please avoid driving in the area if possible.
UPDATE (4:11 p.m., Feb. 3): Power for the surrounding area has been shut off as a precaution. It will be restored once the repairs are complete.
The Kern County Public Health Department's hazmat team is also on scene.
